Plaid — Staff Software Engineer (Product)
Plaid is hiring Staff+ engineers to lead cross-team, high-impact work that scales core systems and unlocks new product capabilities—while staying close to the code. If you like owning architecture for critical “tier-0” systems and mentoring others, this is a strong fit.
What you’ll do
- Own system-level design across data pipelines, platform boundaries, and service interactions to improve overall architecture.
- Drive execution on technically complex initiatives with high bars for reliability, security, and maintainability—hands on.
- Raise the bar: mentor, lead technical reviews, and improve norms for architecture, testing, and observability.
- Partner across product, infra, and security to shape durable abstractions, address architectural debt, and improve explainability.
What you’ll need
- ~8+ years leading multi-team engineering projects and scaling distributed systems.
- Strong backend coding and system-level debugging (e.g., Go, Java, Python).
- Ability to connect technical decisions to real product and business outcomes.
- Low-ego, high-trust communication; influence without authority.
Compensation (Zone 1)
Base: $202,800 – $330,000 Plus equity (role-dependent) Comprehensive benefits
Geographic differentials apply. Zone 1 covers NYC & San Francisco Bay Area.
