Current — Engineering Manager, Backend

New York, NY · Hybrid Backend · Management Fintech
About the role

Lead and grow backend teams building Current’s consumer fintech platform serving millions of members.

  • Own delivery of key initiatives end‑to‑end — from discovery & system design to launch and iteration.
  • Shape large‑scale, data‑intensive services on Google Cloud Kubernetes Engine; services in Java, data pipelines in Scala.
  • Operate a modern stack: MongoDB & Spanner (persistence), Pub/Sub (events), Dataflow → BigQuery/Cloud Storage (analytics).
  • Raise the bar on engineering excellence: code/architecture reviews, testing, monitoring, and reliability.
 
What you’ll need
  • 1+ years of engineering management with strong hands‑on backend experience.
  • Production experience with a JVM language; strong understanding of concurrency & multi‑threading.
  • Proficiency with both RDBMS and NoSQL databases; experience with cloud‑hosted services.
 
Compensation (US)
Base range $200,000–$275,000
Equity Stock options
Bonus Performance‑based
